In the biblical tradition, the fleur-de-lis is linked to two major symbols:

It is both a symbol of purity and virginity.

Within the Catholic Church, the lily stands out as a strong symbol of Mary's virginity, of the Immaculate Conception in Christian iconography.

The lily is traditionally present at Catholic communions and weddings as a symbol of chaste love.

Conversely, the sparrowhawk is a symbol of wear and tear, of rapacity, like most birds of the same species, with their hooked talons.

A hunter and aggressive bird, the sparrowhawk also symbolically designates the penis.

The wearing of the sparrowhawk on the fist, as the artist represented the young man, is the characteristic sign of nobility and social distinction.

By the position of the higher hand holding the fleur-de-lys in relation to that of the hand holding the sparrowhawk.

The sculptor symbolically represented the superiority of purity over sin.

The fruit and vegetation extending behind the right arm evokes the Garden of Eden, the paradise for the virtuous.
