Paul Jouve's vocation awakened very early on, during his frequent walks in the plant garden, while he was still a student at the Paris School of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Natural History. At the age of fifteen, he already exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Artistes français. In 1904 he joined Hamburg and Antwerp, attracted by their large zoological gardens.
Considered as one of the first animal painters in France, he illustrates between 1906 and 1914 the Jungle Book of Rudyard Kipling.
