Paul Ponsard was a French artist and sculptor, born in 1882 in Raincy, a small town in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, in the Ile-de-France region.

The life of Paul Ponsard
At the beginning of his life, he focused on the modern arts that developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Becoming familiar with the artistic styles and trends of his time. The extraordinary sculptures and figures he created are characteristic of the style commonly known as Art Nouveau.

Art Nouveau is a philosophy and style that can be found in architecture and applied art - and especially in decorative arts - which were the most popular between 1890 and 1910. It is often characterized by decorative curved lines, extensive and unsymmetrical floral ornaments.

Paris has become the centre of Art Nouveau, last but not least because of the other art salons in the city on the banks of the Seine. It is also in Nancy that a centre for modern art was born, after "Mile Gall" had founded the École de Nancy, an art school for the craft of glass, porcelain and furniture. It can be assumed that Paul Ponsard himself visited Paris and Nancy and worked there as well as associated himself with the artists.

Paul Ponsard died on 16 February 1915 in Vauquois, a small community in the Meuse department of Lorraine.
