This colossal statue was found on the island of Samothrace. It was erected near the sanctuary of the Cabires, protectors of the sailors, to commemorate a victory for the Rhodes fleet. She had climbed to the front of a galley to announce this success with her right hand open.

The extraordinary virtuosity of the drape creates the power of the work: the clothing plastered on the chest highlights in transparency the beautifully arched body; the folds ripple and extend on all the left side of the goddess then disappear to model the thigh, which rhythms the movement of the body, and unfurl in a wide floating drag at the back.

Thus this victory of Samothrace with majestically spread wings is not a simple symbol of military success: this feminine body thrown forward, whipped by the wind like a figurehead, rises like an epic creation.

This statue of Victory of Samothrace is the exact reproduction of the original work obtained from a reduction made using 3D technology - the volume is accurately rendered to the hundredth of a micron ready. The sculpture was scanned after its last restoration (2013-2014). All the modifications carried out on this occasion appear faithfully on this casting: removal of plaster elements, addition of marble pieces found during excavations and patiently assembled to form new folds here, there a long feather extending the left wing.
