A scarab of a very beautiful workmanship belonging to the heart scarabs serie, of naturalistic type. The dish under the belly of the animal is decorated with a hieroglyphic inscription.
The heart scarabs appear in the New Kingdom and are true talismans placed on the mummy in place of his heart, of which they are in a way substitutes.
The hieroglyphic formula pleads in favour of the deceased so that his heart, at the time of the judgment of the dead, may bear witness in his favour.
This scarab is larger than other scarab-shaped amulets.
