Nude study for the dancer dressed by Edgard Degas

Edgard Degas did not seek to be known as a sculptor. Few of his contemporaries could imagine the importance and quality of the three-dimensional works that he produced from the 1860s onwards.

A large part of them, made of wax or clay, fell apart a few years after their creation without the artist having taken care of them. Also, only a part of his works was preserved thanks to the willingness of his heirs to have the Hebard foundryman take impressions and then draw bronze prints.

Only the "Fourteen-year-old Dancer" in wax was presented to the public by the artist at the sixth painting exhibition (known as "impressionist") in 1881.
