More info

Far from the representation of the biblical subject, this sculpture appears as a pretext for the sensual representation of a nude feminine figure that many amateurs were fond of at the turn of the century.

The naive and troubled expression that emerges from the young woman with her abundant hair still contributes to a profane appreciation of the statuette.

Paul Roussel won the first prize of Rome in 1895. He carries out works in plaster, marble and bronze, responding as much to official commissions, such as a bust of the Republic and monuments to the dead, as to the requests of amateurs of small-sized sculptures. This is the second category to which this Eve or the apple belongs.
