This graceful figurine, with its high hairstyle and elegant bearing, belongs to a group that was very much in vogue during the second half of the 7th century and in the early years of the following century.
The Guimet Museum has several examples of such figurines but this one is the most attractive.
Fragile and slightly nonchalant, even haughty, her face still shows the immature features of childhood.
The extraordinary hairstyle, the ultimate mark of her affectation, is suggestively described as a "chignon half turned into a sword blade".
